Marcello Hernandez John Carroll University Scholarship Announcement

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Marcello Hernandez, known for his role on “Saturday Night Live,” has established a scholarship at John Carroll University to support aspiring comedians. The Bo & Tom – Marcello A. Hernandez ’19 Scholarship was announced following a generous donation from Hernandez himself.

The scholarship aims to benefit one senior student pursuing a career in comedy, entertainment, or content creation. Selected applicants will also receive personal mentorship from Hernandez, who graduated from John Carroll in 2019.

Students who are currently juniors and intend to graduate in 2026 are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 16. According to university officials, applicants must submit a statement of aspiration detailing their career goals along with a video introduction for the selection committee.

This scholarship honors two of Hernandez’s influential professors, Bo Smith and Tom Roche, who he credits for shaping his acting and business skills during his time at John Carroll. “I am eternally grateful for their guidance and mentorship and I am so proud to create this fund in their names,” said Hernandez.

Hernandez also played soccer during his time at John Carroll before fully committing to his career in comedy. University president Alan R. Miciak, Ph.D., expressed gratitude for Hernandez’s continued involvement with the university. “His talent on stage and in front of the camera is matched only by his generosity in mentoring the next generation of entertainers and leaders,” Miciak stated.
