During a contentious House Oversight Committee session, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia caused uproar by insulting colleague Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas, alleging that she wore “fake eyelashes.” The incident unfolded as the committee deliberated on the potential contempt charge against Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Greene’s comment came after probing whether any Democratic panel members had connections to the daughter of the judge overseeing former President Trump‘s high-profile trial involving hush money in New York. Crockett, in response, questioned the relevance of such inquiries to the discussion on Garland.

The situation escalated further when Greene retorted, suggesting that Crockett’s “fake eyelashes” were interfering with her ability to comprehend the proceedings. This prompted Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to call for Greene’s remarks to be struck and demanded an apology.

A heated exchange ensued between Greene and Ocasio-Cortez, with Greene deeming her colleague insufficiently intelligent for a debate. Ocasio-Cortez, in turn, labeled Greene as “baby girl,” implying the reasons for not engaging in a debate were evident.

Although Greene eventually agreed to withdraw her comments, she adamantly refused to offer an apology. The dispute even led to a query by Chairman James Comer from Kentucky about the appropriateness of discussing personal attributes during proceedings.

Representative Luna from Florida intervened, admonishing Crockett for being “out of control” and urging her to calm down, which further fueled tensions. Crockett’s strong response warned of potential repercussions if similar attacks were directed at her.

The chaotic session concluded with the committee voting to allow Greene to resume speaking, highlighting the divisive and confrontational atmosphere within the political arena.
