Brent Hinds Motorcycle Accident

Atlanta, GA – A new police report has determined that Brent Hinds, co-founder of the heavy metal band Mastodon, was at fault in the motorcycle accident that resulted in his death last month. The Atlanta Police Department initially suggested that the driver of an SUV failed to yield while making a left turn, but further investigation revealed that Hinds was speeding when the collision occurred.

According to the police findings, Hinds was traveling between 63 and 68 mph, nearly twice the posted speed limit at the intersection of Memorial Drive SE and Boulevard SE. The report cited time distance calculations and video footage of the crash as evidence of Hinds’ excessive speed. Police stated, “Hinds was at fault for the crash,” based on this analysis.

The investigation also highlighted conflicting statements from the driver of the SUV and a witness. The driver claimed the traffic light was green when she made the left turn, while the witness asserted it was red when the crash happened. This discrepancy raises questions about the precise circumstances surrounding the accident.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 11:35 p.m. on August 20. Hinds was found breathing and moving, although he sustained visible injuries to his head, arms, and torso. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the SUV was also hospitalized with injuries but was reported to be stable. Currently, the Atlanta Police Department has not announced whether any criminal charges will be filed in the case.

In the wake of Hinds’ tragic death, his former bandmates from Mastodon have paid tribute to his legacy. They gathered at a concert to honor him, acknowledging the complex relationship they shared over the years.
