Matthew McConaughey’s Unique Tip for Strengthening Relationships
AUSTIN, Texas — Actor Matthew McConaughey recently shared an unconventional tip for improving relationships: switch to a smaller mattress. McConaughey, 55, has been married to Camila Alves for 13 years, and he credits this simple change with enhancing their connection.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, McConaughey discussed insights from his new book. He suggested that couples might benefit from downsizing from a king-size bed to a queen-size bed. He wrote, “One way to surely get ahead is to get rid of that king-size mattress.”
McConaughey explained that larger beds can create distance between partners, making intimacy more challenging. “I wake up one morning … Camila’s like a football field away,” McConaughey recalled. “It’s great when you got all three kids, but all of a sudden the kids get too big. They’re out of the bed.”
After feeling the separation, McConaughey decided to switch to a queen-size mattress. “So we got a queen size where we’re shoulder to shoulder. I’m telling you, it’s good for your marriage,” he said.
In addition to discussing sleep arrangements, McConaughey emphasized the importance of prioritizing time for partners, even when raising children. He stated, “You can’t 100% live with the kids as a parent. You gotta make sure this is our time.”
McConaughey and Alves have three children together: Levi, Vida, and Livingston. When they married in 2012, they moved from California to Texas to raise their family. In his book, he writes about themes like love, faith, and family.
To further strengthen their partnership, the couple launched their own tequila brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila, in 2023. McConaughey said, “We enjoy ourselves … as soon as we got good juice in a bottle, pants off.”
His latest book, “Poems & Prayers,” is available now and features writings inspired by his life and values.
