Metrolinx and Apple Introduce PRESTO Card Integration with Apple Wallet for Seamless Transit Experience
Metrolinx and Apple have collaborated to unveil a groundbreaking integration between PRESTO cards and Apple Wallet in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), allowing commuters to enjoy a seamless transit experience.
The latest feature permits users to effortlessly add a PRESTO card to their iPhone or Apple Watch via the Wallet app, revolutionizing the way people pay for transit services across the region.
Apple’s Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, Jennifer Bailey, expressed excitement about the convenience this integration brings to GTHA residents and visitors, emphasizing the ease and security of using their Apple devices for transit purposes.
Commuters can now add funds, purchase passes like TTC Monthly Pass, and tap to ride on various transit systems in the GTHA, including GO Transit, TTC, and more, directly from their iPhone or Apple Watch.
With the innovative Express Mode feature, individuals can simply tap their device to a reader without unlocking it, offering a hassle-free experience while traveling on buses, trains, and streetcars.
While the technology offers convenience, it also prioritizes the security and privacy of users. The encrypted PRESTO cards stored in Apple Wallet ensure data protection, with no tracking of individual journeys by Apple. In case of a lost device, the Find My app enables swift action to lock and locate the misplaced iPhone or Apple Watch.
The addition of PRESTO cards to Apple Wallet aligns with Metrolinx’s commitment to enhancing payment options for customers, marking a significant evolution in how people access and pay for transit services in the region.
Barclay Hancock, Chief Payments Officer at Metrolinx, highlighted the continuous innovations in PRESTO to cater to customer needs, promoting the shift towards a more diverse and affordable fare payment landscape across the GTHA.
