Ryan Quinney Mississippi Valley State Football Player Car Accident

Tragedy struck the Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) community on Friday night when football player Ryan Quinney died in a car accident. The 20-year-old junior linebacker, originally from Mobile, Alabama, was involved in a vehicle that was fleeing the Mississippi Highway Patrol in Yazoo City, approximately 50 miles from the MVSU campus.

The accident occurred during a police chase, resulting in Quinney’s fatal injuries. The driver of the car was also injured in the crash. The Yazoo County Coroner, Ricky Shivers, confirmed the details of the incident.

MVSU announced the tragic news via social media on Saturday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their student-athlete. Quinney was described as a “beacon of positivity, uplifting everyone he encountered” in a heartfelt message on MVSU’s Facebook page.

Quinney’s father, Anthony Cox, also shared the news on Facebook, requesting prayers for his family during this difficult time. Quinney had transferred to MVSU from Lane College and had been an active member of the football team, recording 13 tackles over five games in the current season.

During the game between MVSU and Jackson State at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, both teams paid their respects to Quinney. Jackson State included Quinney in their pregame prayer, and MVSU honored him by intentionally taking a delay of game penalty on their first drive, which Jackson State sportsmanlike declined.
