Místico Triumphs at CMLL’s 92nd Anniversary in Arena México
Ciudad de México, México — The Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) celebrated its 92nd anniversary on September 19, 2025, at Arena México, attracting over 19,000 fans. The event brought thrilling matches steeped in tradition and excitement, marking a memorable night for lucha libre enthusiasts.
The evening began with a vibrant atmosphere, as fans donned masks and waved banners, paying homage to the longest-running wrestling promotion in the world. Each match captivated the audience, but the main events delivered unforgettable moments.
The highlight of the night was a tournament featuring Esfinge and El Valiente. Initially, they teamed up to battle the duos of Averno/Último Guerrero and Dragón Rojo Jr./Bárbaro Cavernario. The tension rose as the match narrowed down to these two finalists. Valiente executed aerial moves, electrifying the crowd.
In a dramatic finish, Esfinge, known as the ‘Faraón del Ring,’ trapped El Valiente in a deadly submission hold, leading to the shocking reveal of Valiente’s true identity as Fernando Vega from Guadalajara, Jalisco. The unmasking resonated with fans, being a pivotal moment in the career of any luchador.
In the marquee match, Místico faced off against MJF for the CMLL World Semi-Heavyweight Championship, putting his mask on the line. Místico made a triumphant return with his iconic entrance anthem, “Me Muero” by La Quinta Estación, which echoed throughout Arena México.
The match was intense, marked by heavy blows and blood. Místico ultimately secured victory with his signature move, “La Mística,” forcing MJF to submit. This win not only crowned Místico the CMLL World Semi-Heavyweight Champion but also preserved his mask, further enhancing his legacy.
Another anticipated match between Rey Bucanero and El Felino ended in disqualification, resulting in both losing their hair. Despite a divided audience, both wrestlers acknowledged the end of their rivalry in a post-match press conference, emphasizing mutual respect after years of competition.
The CMLL World Tag Team Championship saw Villano III Jr. and Hijo del Villano III face off against Ángel de Oro and Niebla Roja, with the latter claiming victory after a double pinfall that stunned the Villanos’ supporters.
In the final match of the Copa Independencia, Templario and Titán triumphed over the rudos, Difunto and Barboza, in a swift encounter.
Australian tag matches featured Máscara Dorada, Atlantis Jr., and Neón against Hechicero, Volador Jr., and Zandokan Jr., with Neón’s spectacular 450 Splash sealing the win.
The women’s division highlighted Lluvia and La Jarochita successfully defending their CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Championships against Persephone and Reyna Isis, showcasing their skill and strategy.
