LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Carey Hart, the 49-year-old motocross racer and husband of singer Pink, has opened up about the profound impact of his younger brother Anthony’s tragic death in 2008. Anthony, also a motocross rider, died at age 21 after a crash during a practice run at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut.

“I’ve always cherished family, and it’s kind of hard to put into words the impact, like the death of my brother was a really, really hard and long grieving period,” Hart said during a recent episode of a television show. He described the aftermath of the accident as a time of immense personal struggle and reflection.

Anthony’s death occurred on August 9, 2008, when he crashed into an outer track barricade during preparations for the AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship series. Despite being airlifted to Hartford Hospital, he succumbed to a blunt traumatic head injury. The Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the death as accidental.

Hart, who was 33 at the time, recalled the logistical and emotional challenges he faced in the immediate aftermath. “I had to get my brother’s back. I had to plan the funeral. I had to call his mother like I had to do all this stuff and not miss a beat,” he said. The experience led him to prioritize family over his racing career, especially as his wife, Pink, was preparing to go on tour.

Although Hart and Pink were separated at the time of Anthony’s death, the singer quickly rallied to support her husband. She attended Anthony’s funeral and performed at a Las Vegas memorial, dedicating songs to his memory. The couple eventually reconciled and welcomed two children, Willow Sage Hart in 2011 and Jameson Moon Hart in 2016.

Hart has continued to honor his brother’s memory over the years. On the 10-year anniversary of Anthony’s death, he shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, “Can’t believe it’s already been 10 years. Miss you lil bro. Always wonder the man you would have grown into.”

The tragedy reshaped Hart’s perspective on life and family. “I made the decision to put competition secondary behind my family,” he said. “I didn’t want to be away from my child.” Hart’s journey through grief and his commitment to his family remain central to his story, offering a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds of love and loss.
