Netflix to Stream Yankees-Giants Opener in MLB Deal

New York, NY — Netflix will exclusively stream the Major League Baseball season opener between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants on March 25, 2026. This game marks the beginning of a new three-year agreement between MLB and Netflix, sources revealed.
The match, set for primetime, is unique as it is the only MLB game scheduled for that day, with all other teams beginning their seasons on March 26. This is the first time in several years MLB has started with a standalone game.
In addition to the season opener, Netflix will also have rights to the Home Run Derby, taking place during All-Star Week from July 10 to 14, 2026, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. MLB has partnered with NBC/Peacock as well, which will host events and features like the new home of Sunday Night Baseball.
Details of the financials regarding MLB’s agreements with Netflix and NBC/Peacock remain undisclosed, but they are anticipated to fall between $225 million to $250 million per season. These arrangements come after ESPN opted out of a $550 million deal, allowing MLB to negotiate with additional partners.
According to reports, the Yankees will still hold the majority of their games on their regional sports network, YES, while also streaming select games on Amazon Prime Video and featuring matches on various national networks, including Fox and ESPN.
MLB officials, including Commissioner Rob Manfred, aim to enhance the league’s broadcast options moving forward. They hope to finalize local digital rights with all teams, but challenges remain in collaborating with larger market franchises.
The deal with Netflix is seen as a strategic move, as the platform previously focused on unique events rather than full seasons of professional sports. The agreement adds another layer to the ongoing battle for streaming rights among major sports leagues.
