New TV Series Celebrates Elizabeth Taylor’s Tumultuous Love Life
The latest television series, “Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar,” seeks to honor the iconic Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor by delving into her storied life and loves. Produced by Kim Kardashian, the documentary series explores the actress’s personal and professional journey, including her multiple marriages that captivated public attention.
Elizabeth Taylor, renowned for her swift romances, was married eight times to seven different men. Her first marriage occurred shortly after her 18th birthday, when she wed Conrad Nicholson “Nicky” Hilton Jr., heir to the Hilton hotel empire. Wearing a pearl-embellished satin gown designed by Helen Rose, Taylor’s union was short-lived, as she divorced Hilton just eight months later, citing incompatibility and allegations of abuse.
In 1952, Taylor married British actor Michael Wilding, twenty years her senior. Opting for a demure suit instead of a traditional gown, Taylor sought the “calm, quiet, and security of friendship” in this relationship. The couple had two sons before divorcing in 1957.
That same year, Taylor married film producer Michael Todd. Their marriage ended tragically when Todd died in a plane crash in 1958. Six months later, Taylor began a highly-publicized affair with Eddie Fisher, who was married to her friend Debbie Reynolds. This affair led to a scandalous marriage in 1959, albeit ending in divorce by 1964.
Shortly thereafter, Taylor met Richard Burton on the set of “Cleopatra,” sparking another infamous romance. The couple married in 1964, divorced in 1974, and remarried in 1975, only to end the second marriage after less than a year.
Elizabeth Taylor’s subsequent marriage to Republican Senator John Warner in 1976 lasted six years. Finally, in 1991, she wed Larry Fortensky at Michael Jackson‘s Neverland Ranch, marking her last marriage. Taylor donned a pale yellow Valentino gown for the occasion. This union ended in 1996.
