Nick Mangold Seeks Kidney Donor as Health Declines

Florham Park, New Jersey
Nick Mangold, the former center for the New York Jets and a seven-time Pro Bowl player, announced on October 14, 2025, that he is in urgent need of a kidney transplant. The 41-year-old athlete revealed through a heartfelt message that he has been battling chronic kidney disease since his diagnosis in 2006, shortly after the Jets drafted him.
In his statement, Mangold expressed the difficulties he has faced, stating, “This isn’t an easy message to share, but I want to be open about what’s been happening with me and my health. After a rough summer, I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant.” He emphasized his need for a donor with type O blood, as he does not have any family members eligible to donate.
Mangold asked for assistance from his fans, encouraging anyone who might be a match to visit a specific website for more information. He urged them to use his full name, Nicholas Mangold, along with his birthday, January 13, 1984, to initiate the donation process. “I am deeply grateful to anyone that would consider donating,” he stated.
The former athlete emphasized the importance of community support during this challenging time, stating, “Most of all, I’m thankful for my family, who have been my rock every step of the way.” He remains hopeful for the future, saying, “While this has been a tough stretch, I’m staying positive and focused on the path ahead.”
Nick Mangold enjoyed a celebrated 10-year career with the Jets, retiring in 2016. He was inducted into the Jets’ Ring of Honor in 2022, solidifying his legacy in the franchise. Now, in this personal crisis, he is appealing to both the Jets and Ohio State communities for help in finding a kidney donor.
