Nigerian Education Loan Fund Announces Student Loan Application for State-Owned Tertiary Institutions
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened the student loan application portal for students enrolled in state-owned tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This initiative comes after the successful implementation of the Student Verification System (SVS) portal, which now allows students from 36 designated institutions to apply for financial assistance.
The list of institutions that have completed their student data submission includes notable names such as Adamawa State University, Ramat Polytechnic, Imo State University, Lagos State University, University of Medical Sciences, Nasarawa State University, Osun State University, Taraba State University, and Zamfara State University.
Students in these institutions are encouraged to take advantage of the student loan scheme, aimed at providing financial support for their education. NELFUND has urged state-owned institutions that have not yet submitted their complete student data to the SVS portal to do so promptly to ensure their students can benefit from the program.
The student loan policy was initially enacted by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, with the aim of offering interest-free loans to eligible students. After a series of delays, the scheme officially kicked off in April 2024, with the first batch of successful applicants receiving their loans last month.
