Osun State Government Adopts New Retirement Age for Teachers in Public Schools
The Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has announced the adoption of a new retirement age for teachers in public schools in the state. The new retirement age has been set at 65 years old, with a corresponding service requirement of 40 years.
In a recent circular issued by Ayanleye Aina, the Head of Service in Osun State, Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the outlined guidelines for teachers to benefit from the extended retirement age. The guidelines are essential for teachers seeking to continue working beyond the previous retirement age.
It is crucial to note that the extended retirement period is non-pensionable, as outlined in the guidelines provided by the state government.
The circular also instructed the Ministry of Finance and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to cease the payment of salaries to teachers currently benefiting from the new retirement age without meeting the necessary conditions as stipulated in the guidelines.
The circular emphasized the need for all relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the government to ensure widespread dissemination of the circular and strict compliance with its directives to implement the new retirement age effectively.
