Peterborough Police ABC Honored with Local Community Award
The Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) was recently celebrated at an award ceremony held on September 6, 2024, at Hinxton Hall near Cambridge. The event was organized to honor individuals and organizations that significantly contribute to their local communities.
Representing the club at the ceremony were club coach, Lee Pearce, and his son Alfie, who is also an active boxer at the club. They accepted the award as their teammates were competing in Devon at the Barum Box Cup.
Peterborough Police ABC was founded by police officers Chris and Vicki Baker with the goal of assisting young individuals in managing aggression and behavioral challenges through boxing. The club’s nomination for the award was motivated by a grateful parent whose son benefited from its programs, gaining confidence as a result.
Vicki Baker, co-founder of the club, spoke about its impact, stating, “We are one family, and it seems strange when you say it because everyone has come from such different backgrounds. From speaking to some children, if they didn’t have the gym, they probably would be hanging about the street and getting involved in antisocial behaviour.”
