Philadelphia School District Virtual Learning Campaign

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The School District of Philadelphia announced that all schools, including Early Childhood Centers and the Constance E. Clayton Education Center, will transition to virtual learning on February 6 due to inclement weather. The decision comes as part of the district’s efforts to ensure student and staff safety during severe weather conditions.

In addition to the weather-related closure, Superintendent Dr. Tony B. Watlington Sr. unveiled a new district-wide engagement campaign, ‘I AM SDP,’ on February 3. The initiative aims to highlight the achievements of students, educators, and graduates while fostering a stronger connection between the district and the Philadelphia community.

‘I AM SDP’ will be a multi-year campaign, annually showcasing individuals who embody the district’s core values and demonstrate its commitment to student success. This year’s launch features three exceptional teachers and two 2024 graduates who are pursuing their dreams after graduating from Philadelphia schools.

‘Our amazing students and educators are at the heart of our strategic work to Accelerate Philly,’ said Dr. Watlington. ‘This campaign is designed to tell their stories and share the many ways we are preparing our students for success after high school.’

The campaign will be visible across various platforms, including TV, radio, SEPTA bus shelters, subway stations, billboards, and social media. The district encourages students, employees, graduates, and supporters to share their own ‘I AM SDP’ stories using the hashtags #IAMSDP and #PHLed.

Dr. Watlington emphasized the importance of community partnership in the district’s success. ‘Since the first days of my tenure as Superintendent, I have signed my communications with ‘In Partnership.’ This is because our Board of Education and I believe that partnership and connection are critical to our success as a community,’ he said.

The campaign launch coincides with ongoing discussions about the district’s priorities, including school safety, attendance improvement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. In a recent episode of NBC10‘s ‘Battleground Politics,’ Dr. Watlington addressed these topics, highlighting the district’s efforts to address challenges such as gun violence and the need for cooling systems in school buildings.
