Plano Isd Winter Storm School Closure 2025

PLANO, Texas — Plano Independent School District (PISD) announced the closure of all schools and district facilities on Jan. 9, 2025, due to an impending winter storm. The decision was made in response to a winter storm warning, anticipated freezing temperatures, and hazardous road conditions.

District officials stated that the safety of students and staff was the primary concern. “We are closely monitoring weather conditions and will make decisions based on the latest information,” said a spokesperson for PISD. A determination regarding school operations for Jan. 10 will be made after evaluating travel conditions on Thursday evening.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about updates through the district’s website, PISD mobile app, SchoolMessenger notifications, and social media channels. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region, predicting significant snowfall and icy conditions.

This marks the first major weather-related closure for PISD in 2025. Last year, the district faced similar challenges during a winter storm in February, which led to multiple school closures and delayed reopenings.

Local authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages. Collin County Emergency Management has activated its winter weather response plan, which includes pre-treating roads and coordinating with utility companies.

PISD joins several other North Texas school districts, including Frisco ISD and Richardson ISD, in announcing closures ahead of the storm. The decision reflects a proactive approach to ensure community safety amid unpredictable winter weather patterns.
