Preeti Sudan to Head UPSC Starting August 1
Preeti Sudan, the former Union Health Secretary, is set to become the new Chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) starting August 1. This information was confirmed by a government official.
Currently, Sudan is a member of the UPSC and will be stepping into the Chairperson role after Manoj Soni recently resigned due to personal reasons. Soni’s departure is notable since he left nearly five years before the end of his term, which was supposed to last until 2029.
Sudan’s tenure is expected to last until April 2025, which coincides with her turning 65. She will take over during a busy time for the Commission, which is responsible for conducting various examinations for the Indian government.
The UPSC plays a crucial role in recruiting candidates for prestigious positions such as the IAS, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and other Central Services, both Group A and Group B. The Commission is a constitutional entity governed by Article 315 to 323 under Part XIV of the Indian Constitution.
