Recalls Issued for Potential E. Coli Contamination in Ground Beef Products From Multiple Retailers
In recent alerts issued by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, ground beef products potentially contaminated with E. coli have triggered recalls at multiple retailers. Among the affected retailers is Hannaford Supermarkets, where the focus is on the Hannaford brand 85% lean ground beef produced by Greater Omaha Packing Co. The concern centers around products purchased between April 6 and April 16 with a sell-by date falling within April 6 and April 18.
Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts are among the states where select Hannaford stores have been impacted by the recall. Customers who may have purchased the identified ground beef are advised to check their refrigerators and freezers for the specific products, including the 85% Lean Ground Beef – Small Pack and 85% Lean Ground Beef – Family Pack, both identifiable by unique UPCs provided by the supermarket.
For those who have these products in storage, Hannaford offers a full refund upon return of either the product or its packaging. No instances of injuries or illnesses related to the contaminated beef have been reported. Notably, Hannaford assures that once the public health alert was issued, no affected beef was available for sale at their stores.
