NIA DG, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar resigns
The Director-General of Nigeria’s National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has officially resigned from his position.
On August 24, 2024, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar submitted his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ahmed Rufai Abubakar was appointed as the substantive Director-General for the NIA by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 11, 2018.
Before his tenure at the NIA, Rufai had a notable career as a retired Foreign Service officer and served as the Senior Special Assistant to the former President Buhari on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
He has also contributed to various global initiatives while working with the United Nations, focusing on peace support operations, mediation processes, preventive diplomacy, and the advocacy of good governance, the rule of law, and human rights.
