Saskatchewan Riders Secure Last-Second Victory Over Hamilton in CFL Thriller
In a thrilling CFL matchup, the Saskatchewan Roughriders secured a heart-stopping last-second victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday night. The Riders, led by Brett Lauther’s clutch 43-yard field goal on the final play of the game, completed a remarkable comeback to win 33-30 against a fierce Hamilton side.
The game-winning field goal was set up by a crucial interception from C.J. Avery at the Hamilton 37-yard line with just 35 seconds remaining, sealing the victory in front of 22,313 fans at Tim Hortons Field.
Despite a strong performance by Hamilton quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, who threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns, the Tiger-Cats couldn’t fend off the resilient Riders.
Hamilton took a 30-20 lead in the fourth quarter after a field goal by Marc Liegghio. However, Saskatchewan rallied back with an impressive offensive display, with Trevor Harris connecting with Kian Schaffer-Baker for a 10-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 30-30.
Brett Lauther’s 46-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter had narrowed Hamilton’s lead, setting the stage for the dramatic finish. The Riders overcame 11 penalties for 115 yards to secure the hard-fought win.
Notable touchdowns in the game came from Steven Dunbar Jr., Kiondre Smith, and Shemar Bridges for Hamilton, while Saskatchewan found the end zone through scores from Kian Schaffer-Baker, Shea Patterson, and Brett Lauther’s field goals.
The closely contested game saw momentum swing back and forth, with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess and resilience under pressure. The result sets up an eagerly anticipated rematch between the two teams next week in Regina.
