Seattle Marathon 2024: Streets Closed, Transit Rerouted as Runners Take to the Streets
The UW Medicine Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon, an event that has been a staple in the city since 1970, is set to take place on Sunday, December 1, 2024. This year’s event marks over 50 years of the marathon, which attracts thousands of runners and spectators alike.
The marathon will result in several street closures across Seattle, affecting both local traffic and public transportation. Key routes such as the ST 550 and ST 545 buses will be rerouted from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM to accommodate the runners. The rerouting is intended to minimize disruptions while ensuring the safety of participants and spectators.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes in advance to avoid delays. The street closures will be in effect from early morning until the event concludes, with specific roads being closed to facilitate the marathon and half-marathon courses.
The event is not just about the runners; it also relies heavily on the support of volunteers and the community. The Seattle Marathon Association and UW Medicine are key organizers, ensuring that the event runs smoothly and safely for all involved.
