The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has appointed Stacey Zucker as the Interim Director of Education. The decision was reached following a unanimous trustee vote during a regular board meeting held on October 11, 2024. Zucker will fill the role vacated by the retiring Colleen Russell-Rawlins, effective November 1.

Stacey Zucker has held the position of Associate Director of Modernization and Strategic Resource Alignment at the TDSB since August 2022. In her current role, she manages complex portfolios, including finance, facilities and capital management, information technology, and transportation. Zucker’s appointment to the interim director role is temporarily planned for approximately three months, as the TDSB commences its search for a permanent Director of Education.

Prior to her roles at the TDSB, Zucker served as the Associate Director of Support Services at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and also worked with the Halton Catholic District School Board.

In a statement, Zucker expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, saying, “I am honoured to step into the role of Interim Director of Education and to continue working alongside our dedicated Trustees, staff, families, and communities. Together, we will continue to build on the strong foundation that makes the Toronto District School Board a leader in education where all students have the opportunity to succeed and thrive.” She emphasized her commitment to maintaining the board’s status as an educational leader during her tenure.

The Acting Chair of TDSB, Neethan Shan, commented on Zucker’s appointment, noting, “Given her significant experience in education and her current work managing large-scale projects and collaboratively leading cross-functional teams, Stacey is the right person for the job. I look forward to working with her over the next few months as we transition to a new permanent Director of Education.”

The search for a permanent director is being overseen by the Board’s Director of Education Search Committee, who are keen to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
