Starlink Slashes Price of Internet Hardware by 45% in Nigeria
Starlink, the innovative internet service provider founded by Elon Musk, has announced a substantial reduction in the price of its hardware in Nigeria.
According to a recent update released by Starlink on Wednesday, the price of the Starlink internet router has been slashed by 45%, dropping from N800,000 to N440,000.
The decision comes in light of recent fluctuations in the value of the naira against the US dollar and other foreign currencies.
Notably, Starlink had previously raised the hardware price to N800,000 in early March, attributing it to currency devaluation.
Despite the significant reduction in hardware cost, the monthly subscription fee for Starlink’s internet service remains steady at N38,000 per month.
Starlink also recently reduced its hardware prices in South Africa from ZAR 12,000 to ZAR 6,800 earlier in the week, showing a commitment to making its services more accessible internationally.
Since its launch in Nigeria in January 2023, Starlink has grown its subscriber base to 11,207 as per data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (third quarter of 2023).
Nigeria served as the debut African operation country for Starlink, marking its 47th operational country globally.
