Maryland Weather Forecast Thunderstorms April 2025

BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore’s weather is set to transition as meteorologist Alena Lee forecasts cooler temperatures and cloudy skies on Wednesday, with a possibility of light showers. However, a more significant weather event is expected on Thursday, characterized by strong thunderstorms with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s.

As the day progresses, Lee noted that winds will come out of the southeast at 10 to 15 mph, and evening temperatures will drop into the low 50s. “A few more clouds will be streaming in, and while there’s a slim chance of a sprinkle during the evening game, it shouldn’t warrant rain gear for attendees,” she said.

Moreover, the National Weather Service has designated Thursday as an Impact Weather day, highlighting a slight risk of severe storms affecting a large portion of Maryland, extending into parts of the Gulf Coast, including Texas. The Storm Prediction Center has indicated that damaging winds will be a primary threat from any stronger thunderstorms.

“We might also see a few showers or storms, possibly with hail. The tornado risk exists but remains low,” Lee explained. The severe weather is categorized as a Level 2 out of 5 risk, indicating that while concerns exist, it is not the highest level of danger.

Forecasters are closely monitoring a storm system currently moving through the Midwest, which is expected to affect the East Coast soon. The Futurecast model shows an initial dry period through Wednesday afternoon, with a slight chance of light showers overnight leading into Thursday morning.

Lee added, “We could experience a weak wave bringing some light rain on Thursday morning. As we approach the late afternoon, there’s a greater likelihood of showers or isolated thunderstorms as a cold front moves through.”

This unsettled weather pattern is not a one-time event. Rain chances are expected to persist through the weekend, as another weather system approaches Maryland, particularly on Sunday afternoon and evening, increasing the likelihood of rain.

For reference, temperatures will remain variable, with Saturday expected to reach the upper 60s, while Sunday could see a brief spike into the 70s before the cold front arrives early next week, potentially impacting temperatures drastically.
