Successful Pulse Polio Campaign Achieves High Coverage In Shivamogga District

The pulse polio campaign in Shivamogga district has reported a commendable achievement with high coverage among children on Sunday. The campaign, led by Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat CEO Snehal Sudhakar Lokhande, marked a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare efforts.

Overall, 1,17,957 children were successfully vaccinated, reaching an impressive 97.79% of the set target of 1,20,626. The remaining children will be covered on the subsequent days of the campaign to ensure comprehensive protection.

Among the different taluks in the district, Soraba stood out with the highest coverage at 101.76%, showcasing a remarkable commitment to child welfare. The other taluks, including Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Hosanagar, Sagar, Shikaripur, and Thirthahalli, also reported substantial coverage rates.

The campaign kickoff saw the active participation of various stakeholders, with CEO Lokhande initiating the drive at Government Higher Primary School in Milaghatta. Rajesh Suragihalli, the District Health and Family Welfare Officer, emphasized the importance of universal polio vaccination and the district’s clean record of no polio cases since 1997.

While the absence of polio cases in Shivamogga is reassuring, the ongoing vaccination drive remains crucial, especially in light of reported cases in some countries. The seamless collaboration between ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and volunteers from Rotary Clubs underscores the community-wide effort to safeguard children’s health.
