Tesla Rolls Out Major Software Update with Enhanced Features Worldwide
PALO ALTO, Calif. — Tesla has begun rolling out its latest software update, version 2025.2, introducing a suite of new features and enhancements to its global fleet of vehicles. The update, which started on January 16, 2025, includes improvements to navigation, entertainment, and safety systems, as well as new functionalities for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software.
As of January 21, 2025, the update has reached 4,475 vehicles, representing 24.2% of Tesla’s fleet. An additional 2,145 installations are pending, with 2,776 vehicles receiving the update on January 20 and 219 more scheduled for January 21. The rollout is available worldwide for Tesla’s Model S, 3, X, Y, and Cybertruck vehicles.
One of the standout features in the update is the integration of real-time weather data into the vehicle’s navigation system. Drivers can now view precipitation on their maps and receive weather updates for their destination, including significant differences between their current location and final destination. This feature requires Tesla’s Premium Connectivity service.
Another notable addition is the ability to use an Apple Watch as a vehicle key. Tesla owners can now unlock and lock their cars, check battery status, and perform actions like opening the frunk or trunk directly from their Apple Watch. The update also introduces enhanced Dashcam and Sentry Mode functionality, allowing users to save clips directly from their mobile app.
For entertainment, Tesla has revamped its TuneIn Radio app, offering access to over 100,000 radio stations, 3 million podcasts, and audiobooks. The update also includes new Light Shows, customizable interior lighting effects, and a redesigned Seats control panel for adjusting unoccupied passenger seats.
On the safety front, Tesla has added a new feature that alerts drivers to pedestrians or vehicles crossing behind them when reversing. The update also includes improvements to Auto Shift (Beta), which now assists with shifting between Drive and Reverse based on surroundings.
In a statement, Tesla emphasized that drivers must remain attentive at all times, even when using advanced features like Auto Shift (Beta) and FSD. The company also highlighted that many of the new features require Premium Connectivity or a Wi-Fi connection.
As the rollout continues, Tesla owners are encouraged to check for updates and share feedback on the new features. The company has not yet announced a timeline for when the update will reach the entire fleet.
