Texas Attorney General Sues Tylenol Maker Over Autism Claims
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the maker of Tylenol, alleging that the company failed to warn consumers about potential risks associated with its painkiller. This legal action, announced on October 28, 2025, marks the first instance of a state government taking such action regarding Tylenol and autism.
The lawsuit follows a statement from President Biden, made a month prior during a press conference, urging pregnant women not to take acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol. ‘Don’t take Tylenol, don’t take it,’ Biden said emphatically. He added that expecting mothers should ‘fight like hell’ not to take the medication due to concerns about its potential link to autism in children.
While some studies suggest a connection between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and the development of autism, experts have cautioned that correlation does not equal causation. Other significant research has found no substantial evidence linking the use of Tylenol in pregnant women to autism.
Paxton, who is currently a candidate in the GOP primary to challenge Republican U.S. Senator John Cornyn, stated that this lawsuit aims to ‘Make America Healthy Again.’ He criticized pharmaceutical companies, asserting, ‘Big Pharma betrayed America by profiting off of pain and pushing pills regardless of the risks. These corporations lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets.’
By pursuing accountability from pharmaceutical firms, Paxton believes it will contribute to improving public health.
