Texas Secures Commitment from Five-Star WR Easton Royal Amid Recruiting Surge
AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns football team secured a major recruiting win Saturday when five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, ranked No. 16 nationally, committed to the program for the 2027 class.
Royal’s announcement follows a significant victory for Texas, adding to their recruitment momentum as they finalize their 2026 class, which is currently ranked seventh in ESPN’s rankings.
Shortly after Royal’s pledge, defensive end Jamarion Carlton, another highly coveted prospect and No. 96 overall in the 2026 class, flipped his commitment to Texas. Carlton, who has visited Austin multiple times recently, adds to the growing list of top-tier talent committing to the Longhorns.
At 6 feet tall and weighing 195 pounds, Royal is the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to ESPN. He chose Texas over a multitude of offers from major programs including LSU and Alabama. This key commitment arrives less than 24 hours after Royal attended the Longhorns’ win against Texas A&M.
A junior at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, Royal had an impressive fall season, recording 53 receptions for 1,151 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is now the highest-ranked commit in Texas’s 2027 class.
With National Signing Day approaching, the Longhorns aim to strengthen their 2026 recruiting class further, which includes additional flips and commitments in the coming weeks. Texas is optimistic about signing a balanced group of recruits in both 2026 and 2027 as they look to continue their upward trajectory on the recruiting front.
