SEATTLE, WA — The Detroit Tigers took a narrow 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Game 1 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park.

The Tigers, who lead the best-of-five series 1-0, secured the win after a tense 11-inning battle. The Mariners had a strong start, but the Tigers rallied late to clinch the game. First baseman Spencer Torkelson hit a pivotal two-run double in the 11th inning, putting the Tigers ahead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez doubled off Tigers reliever Kyle Finnegan, driving in a run to tie the game at 2-2. Earlier in the game, shortstop Jorge Polanco had put the Mariners on the board with a solo home run off Tigers pitcher Tyler Skubal.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning with a two-run homer from Kerry Carpenter, but Seattle quickly retaliated. Rodriguez’s scoring helped set the stage for a exciting finish.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch praised his team’s resilience and said, “We showed great poise under pressure. Every time Seattle scored, we found a way to bounce back.”

Despite some struggles at the plate, including a rough day for Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suárez, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, the game remained close until the final out.

With this vital win, the Tigers look to carry momentum into Game 2, hoping to extend their series lead. The teams will meet again on Sunday evening, with Detroit’s ace Tarik Skubal expected to take the mound.
