Traffic Alerts This Weekend Due to Bay Bridge Race and Veterans Day Events
BALTIMORE, Md. — Maryland drivers should prepare for significant traffic this weekend due to multiple events, including the Bay Bridge Run and the Veterans Day Parade in Baltimore.
The eastbound lane of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will close from 12:01 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday for the Bay Bridge Run, which is a 10K event spanning the bridge and extending into Kent Island, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA).
To facilitate this event, westbound traffic will use a two-way system. The center lane will be open intermittently to help reduce possible delays. MDTA officials warned commuters to expect heavy congestion in the area and suggested traveling before 6 a.m. or after 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in Baltimore, the Department of Transportation advised residents to seek alternate routes ahead of the Veterans Day Parade scheduled for Saturday. The parade begins at noon at the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon and concludes at War Memorial Plaza by 2:30 p.m.
Street closures and parking restrictions will commence at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Additionally, the Charm City Circulator service will be affected, with the Purple and Green routes operating under detours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other events around Baltimore, including the opening of the Inner Harbor Ice Rink and the ongoing festival at the SNF Parkway Theatre, will likely add to city traffic. On Sunday, the Howard County Veterans Day Parade & Celebration will also take place at 9:30 a.m. near the shopping mall in Columbia.
