The Traitors” Triumphs at Television Awards
The reality competition series “The Traitors” secured the win for the best reality competition series for its second season during the prestigious television awards event. This victory was complemented by the show’s host, Alan Cumming, receiving the award for best reality or competition program host at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony the previous weekend.
During the award acceptance, Alan Cumming expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much everybody. Thank you to the Academy. We are very grateful because we are a new show, and it’s amazing how you all stick to something you love, a commendable quality indeed.” Cumming was accompanied onstage by the production team from Studio Lambert, the studio behind the hit series. He requested the audience to applaud them, highlighting their dedication to achieving high-quality work.
Alan Cumming also acknowledged Peacock for their “kindness and support,” and celebrated his involvement with the emerging streaming service. He extended his appreciation to everyone involved in the series, mentioning “everyone in our castle, the cast and crew, who endure the Scottish weather.” Scotland was further praised by Cumming as he stated, “I owe it everything; it’s such a beautiful co-star.”
His speech also included a nod to Holland, recognizing it as the origin of many successful reality shows like “The Traitors.” Cumming humorously remarked that there must be something special in the Dutch water that could solve America’s problems if discovered and shared.
The show had previously scooped up four Critics Choice Real TV Awards in June, which included honors such as the best competition series and best ensemble cast. “The Traitors,” is an adaptation of the original Dutch series “De Verraders,” drawing inspiration from popular party games like Mafia and Werewolf. This competition challenges a blend of reality TV veterans and newcomers to identify the “traitors” among them, all the while evading elimination through deception, as there is a substantial cash prize to be won.
Alan Cumming, in an earlier interview, discussed the substantial effort required in hosting the show, describing it as a “huge acting job.” He elaborated, “I view it as a character role. Obviously, it’s me — his name’s Alan Cumming — but it’s not really me. I don’t truly sound or dress like that, nor do I own a castle, regrettably.”
The upcoming season of “The Traitors” is set to feature high-profile personalities including Tom Sandoval from “Vanderpump Rules,” Dorinda Medley from “Real Housewives of New York,” Chrishell Stause from “Selling Sunset,” and Britney Spears‘ ex-husband, among others.
