After The Hunt Movie Poster With Ayo Edebiri And Andrew Garfield

LOS ANGELES, California — Amazon MGM has announced the limited release of the psychological thriller “After the Hunt” on October 10, 2025, with a nationwide expansion following on October 17. Directed by Luca Guadagnino and featuring an impressive cast including Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield, the film aims to capture attention during the prime awards season.

Described as a gripping psychological drama, the film revolves around a college professor, portrayed by Roberts, who finds herself at a critical personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil (Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Garfield). The plot thickens as a dark secret from her past threatens to resurface, complicating her response to the situation.

Joining Roberts, Edebiri, and Garfield in the cast are Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. The film’s script has been penned by newcomer Nora Garrett, who will also serve as an executive producer alongside Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment.

Producers for “After the Hunt” include Guadagnino, along with Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum, as well as Jeb Brody, all of whom have a track record of producing compelling cinematic works.

The launch date coincides with the release of other notable films, including Blumhouse’s horror sequel “The Black Phone 2,” featuring Ethan Hawke, and Lionsgate’s R-rated comedy “Good Fortune,” starring Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen. With such anticipated competition, “After the Hunt” will need to stand out in its dual attempt to draw audiences and gain critical acclaim.

Guadagnino, known for his Oscar-nominated film “Call Me by Your Name,” continues his partnership with Amazon MGM following last year’s successful opening of his film “Challengers,” which debuted at No. 1 with a $15 million opening weekend. The director has made a name for himself in both the horror and romantic drama genres, previously helming films such as “Suspiria” and “Bones and All.” His first foray into the Fall Film Festival circuit is anticipated, given his history of launching films at prestigious events like the Venice Film Festival.

In addition to his work on “After the Hunt,” Guadagnino is developing several projects including “Sgt. Rock” at DC, a remake of “American Psycho” at Lionsgate, and “Separate Rooms” at Fremantle. With a well-crafted narrative and a star-studded cast, “After the Hunt” has the potential for significant box office success and critical recognition during the upcoming film awards season.
