Electric Vehicle Charging Stations In Virginia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine announced $10.8 million in federal funding on January 13, 2025, to build 392 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports across Virginia. The funding, allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program, will support installations at urban and rural tourism destinations, with over half of the chargers placed in disadvantaged communities.

The initiative is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which both senators helped pass. “Electric vehicles will help create healthier communities for future generations by reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions. However, it’s critical that Virginians who choose to purchase EVs have access to charging stations so they can get where they need to go,” said Warner and Kaine in a joint statement.

The funding aims to increase EV accessibility, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas and underserved communities. Warner and Kaine have been vocal advocates for Virginia’s clean energy economy, having supported legislation that includes tax credits for EV purchases and funding for EV technology expansion.

This announcement builds on previous efforts by the senators to promote clean energy. In 2022, they secured funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to install EV charging ports across the state. The latest grant underscores their commitment to reducing emissions and supporting sustainable transportation infrastructure.
