Waec Releases 2024 Exam Results

The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Candidates who participated in this year’s exam can now check their results online.

However, it’s important to note that WAEC has withheld the results of over 215,000 candidates due to concerns regarding examination malpractice, which is about 12% of the total candidates. This means that out of approximately 1.8 million students who took the exam, a significant number will need further instructions from WAEC to resolve their issues.

According to Dr. Amos Dangut, who heads WAEC’s Nigeria office, 1,332,089 candidates were successful in achieving credits in five subjects, which include either Mathematics or English Language. Interestingly, 1,301,949 candidates obtained credits in both Mathematics and English Language, marking a successful rate of about 72.9% this year, even though it shows a decline from last year’s performance.

For those looking to check their results, WAEC has made the process straightforward. Candidates should visit the official WAEC portal where they can enter their examination number, year, and the required PIN. Each candidate has a unique Serial Number and PIN that can be found on their Smart Identity Card.

If anyone misplaced their PIN, they can retrieve it by visiting the WAEC Request Management System portal, where they can purchase a new PIN for N4,250.

Additionally, candidates can also check their results using SMS by sending a specific code to the designated number, with a small fee applicable depending on their network provider. This service is available for subscribers of MTN, Glo, and Airtel.

Interestingly, there’s an opportunity for Nigerian candidates who passed their WAEC exams, as the federal government has announced scholarship programs in collaboration with Vietnam‘s Government. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these scholarship opportunities for the 2024-2025 academic year.
