Wake County Schools Launch New Safety App for Teachers

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Wake County Public Schools is set to enhance school safety with the launch of a new mobile app for classroom teachers on Tuesday, February 17, 2025.
The security app aims to provide a quick and efficient way for educators to report non-emergency incidents on campus. In critical situations, such as an active shooter scenario, the app will also allow users to alert law enforcement swiftly.
Initially, the app will be introduced at more than 120 schools throughout the district to prevent overwhelming the system. As the rollout progresses, it is anticipated that all schools will gain access to the app by spring 2025.
While the usage of the app is not mandatory for teachers and staff, the district’s Office of Security has encouraged educators to participate by updating their contact information within the app. “Anything will help. Teachers have a tough job right now,” said Debbie Drew, a teacher reflecting on the importance of safety in today’s world. “Just because of safety, too many things are going on in this world. And I worry about our children.”
The district is prioritizing safety measures in response to the ongoing concerns surrounding school security. Teachers hope that this technology will assist in creating a safer environment for both staff and students.
With this initiative, Wake County Public Schools aims to foster a more secure educational atmosphere, leveraging technology to improve communication and response during emergencies.
