Virginia Beach Events Cancellation Weather

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Heavy rain, high winds, and potential flooding have led to the cancellation or rescheduling of numerous community events this weekend. Organizers are focusing on ensuring public safety while adjusting plans due to the unpredictable weather conditions expected.

The 47th Annual Peanut Festival, held at Suffolk Executive Airport, will close early on Sunday because of the forecasted harsh weather. While events will proceed as planned on Saturday until 10 p.m., some activities, like the hot wings eating contests, have been moved to earlier times to accommodate the expected rain.

According to the festival organizers, safety remains their top priority. “We are watching the weather carefully and will make changes as necessary to keep everyone safe,” the publicity coordinator said.

In Virginia Beach, the Virginia MOCA Boardwalk Art Show will wrap up early on Saturday, canceling all activities for Sunday. “While we’re disappointed, we prioritize the safety of our artists and attendees,” the event team stated in a Facebook post.

Similar weather-related impacts are occurring across coastal North Carolina. The Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Festival has been postponed to October 18, while York County’s Fire Prevention Week Open House has also been canceled.

In Sedona, Arizona, the Sedona Arts Festival and the Wings And Wheels event were preemptively canceled due to potential impacts from Hurricane Priscilla. The festival will not be rescheduled for this year, an official announcement confirmed.

Despite the cancellations, the Duck Jazz Festival, scheduled for this weekend, remains committed to proceeding ‘rain or shine’. Communities are encouraged to stay informed and monitor weather updates for the safety of all participants.
