Toronto, Canada — William H. Macy, a renowned character actor, spoke about his long career and his latest film, ‘Train Dreams,’ during an event at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month.

The 75-year-old actor has captivated audiences for over five decades, featuring in acclaimed films including ‘Fargo,’ ‘Boogie Nights,’ and ‘Pleasantville,’ and television series like ‘ER‘ and ‘Shameless.’ In his conversation, Macy reflected on his journey through the entertainment industry.

‘Train Dreams,’ a film adapted from Denis Johnson‘s 2011 novella, is directed by Clint Bentley and co-written by Bentley and Greg Kwedar, both of whom received Oscar nominations for their previous work. In the film, Joel Edgerton stars as Robert Grainier, a railroad worker and logger in the Pacific Northwest in the early 20th century.

Macy portrays Arn Peeples, a unique character who is not just an explosives specialist but also a philosopher and singer. Although Macy has limited screen time, his performance is impactful and adds depth to the film.

Critics have praised Macy for his versatility and highlighted the importance of his return to the big screen after a decade-long absence. The film is expected to position him as a contender for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this season.

‘Train Dreams’ is set for a theatrical release by Netflix on November 7, with streaming available starting November 21.
