DULUTH, Minn. — A powerful Alberta Clipper swept through the Northland this weekend, dumping 3 to 10 inches of snow across the region and prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning.

The storm, which began late Saturday night, brought the heaviest snowfall to Cook and Lake Counties, where accumulations reached 6 to 10 inches. Most other areas received 3 to 6 inches of snow. The National Weather Service reported that lingering snow was possible Sunday night into Monday, particularly along the South Shore.

“This clipper had a little more sass than most,” said a National Weather Service spokesperson. “The combination of heavy snow and strong winds created hazardous travel conditions, especially in the northern counties.”

Sunday’s snowfall tapered off by noon, with temperatures hovering near 20 degrees Fahrenheit, close to seasonal averages. However, a cold snap is expected to follow the storm, with temperatures plummeting to -10 degrees Monday morning and highs struggling to reach 5 degrees. Wind chills will make conditions feel even colder, with northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph.

Tuesday will remain sunny but frigid, with lows starting at -10 degrees and highs barely reaching 7 degrees. Wednesday will bring partly sunny skies and a 30% chance of flurries, with lows dropping to -15 degrees and highs climbing to 18 degrees.

A brief warm spell is forecast for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures nearing 30 degrees before cooling again next Saturday. Residents are advised to prepare for the bitter cold by ensuring proper insulation and heating in their homes.
