Luka Doncic Leads Slovenia in Quest for EuroBasket Glory

LOS ANGELES, California – Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic is back overseas as he prepares for the upcoming EuroBasket tournament. The 2025 tournament features numerous NBA stars, including Nikola Jokic from Serbia, Alperen Sengun from Turkey, and Giannis Antetokounmpo from Greece.
EuroBasket is a prestigious event that occurs every four years, similar to the World Cup or UEFA European Championships in soccer. National pride is at stake, and Doncic recognizes the importance of the competition. At a recent press conference, he expressed his desire to win a medal for Slovenia.
“Our goal is always a medal. But I am not the only leader,” Doncic stated. “I have the feeling that others also have a say. If you have only one leader on the team, you will not get anything done. You have to have several leaders.”
Beneath the spotlight of the NBA, many players on the Slovenian roster have been playing together for years. Although Doncic is the standout NBA player, some teammates may bring vital international experience and leadership to the team.
Slovenia’s success in the tournament heavily relies on Doncic’s performance, but he acknowledges that teamwork is crucial. “It’s still a team game, and I will need my teammates’ support to reach our goal.”
Recently, Doncic signed a three-year extension with the Lakers, securing his place in Los Angeles through 2028. Following this period, he may be eligible for a significant five-year deal worth over $400 million.
