PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies have officially clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs after defeating the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Thursday. This victory marked the Phillies’ ninth consecutive win at home and their 35th series win of the season, setting a franchise record.

The Phillies, with a remarkable home record of 94 wins and 65 losses, boast the best home winning percentage in Major League Baseball at .684. They also lead the league with a +102 run differential at home.

In this latest matchup, designated hitter Kyle Schwarber continued to impress by hitting two home runs, bringing his season total to 56, placing him at the top of the National League. Schwarber is now just two home runs away from tying the franchise record set by Ryan Howard in 2006.

The Phillies’ pitching has also been strong, with left-handed pitcher Cristopher Sánchez leading the team with a bWAR of 7.7. The team has a 22-9 record in Sánchez’s 31 starts this season.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins conclude their tough season, currently holding a record of 69-90, their worst since 2016. After winning two of three games against the Texas Rangers, the Twins aim to end the season on a positive note in their upcoming matchup against the Phillies.

The Twins will face off against the Phillies in a three-game series starting Friday at Citizens Bank Park. Right-handed pitcher Joe Ryan (13-9, 3.47 ERA) will begin the series for the Twins against the Phillies’ Aaron Nola (4-10, 6.46 ERA).

Twins center fielder Byron Buxton has had a standout season, achieving career highs in several categories, including hits (127), home runs (34), and stolen bases (24). Buxton’s performance has been a bright spot during a challenging season for the team.

The Phillies will also welcome back catcher J.T. Realmuto, who returned to the lineup against Miami after a minor injury, boosting the team as they prepare for playoff action.
