Vince McMahon Rejects Unique Creative Pitch by Matt Hardy

LOWELL, Massachusetts — In a recent interview, Matt Hardy revealed that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon rejected a creative idea during their 2017 storyline involving his brother, Jeff Hardy. The proposed concept would have featured an injured Jeff appearing as a mental projection to Matt’s ‘Woken‘ persona.
The idea emerged while Jeff was sidelined due to shoulder surgery after returning to WWE. Matt explained how he wanted to keep Jeff’s presence in the narrative, using inspiration from the show ‘Dexter.’ He envisioned Broken Matt communicating with Jeff’s mental projection, guiding him like a ‘North Star.’
During the interview, Matt recounted his pitch to McMahon. ‘I said, ‘What if we kinda use Jeff… and he’s like my guiding light?’ Vince responded, ‘So wait, is Jeff not really there?’ I explained, ‘No, he’s in my mind… and nobody’s there.’ He replied, ‘I don’t know, that’s a little much. D—mit, Matt,’” said Matt.
Jeff Hardy supported the concept, believing it would have been effective. ‘It would have been great, even if I was in my brace from my surgery… I thought that would have been great,’ Jeff said, expressing disappointment at the missed opportunity.
Currently, The Hardy Boyz hold the World Tag Team Championship and are set to face Team 3D, formerly known as the Dudley Boyz, in a highly anticipated match. This showdown, billed as a final encounter, will take place during the Bound For Glory pay-per-view on October 12 in Lowell.
On the September 25 edition of iMPACT!, their match was announced as a Tables Match following a challenge from Bully Ray. An additional stipulation requires Team 3D to publicly recognize The Hardy Boyz as the greatest tag team of their generation if they lose.
