Very Young Frankenstein Fx Cast Announcement

Los Angeles, CAFX Networks has officially given a pilot order for the comedy series Very Young Frankenstein, inspired by Mel Brooks’ beloved classic film, Young Frankenstein. The announcement was made on September 30, 2025, along with details of its exciting cast.

Joining the cast are Zach Galifianakis, Kumail Nanjiani, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, and Nikki Crawford. Cary Elwes, known for his role in the original film, is also confirmed to star in the pilot. Character details remain undisclosed, with the storyline expected to pay homage to the original film’s humor and absurdity.

Mel Brooks, the iconic filmmaker behind the original, will serve as an executive producer, alongside FX’s What We Do in the Shadows team: Stefani Robinson, who will act as writer and showrunner, and Taika Waititi, who will direct the pilot. Garrett Basch, Kevin Salter, and Michael Gruskoff will also take on executive production roles, with 20th Television producing the series.

The original Young Frankenstein, released in 1974, is a comedy that cleverly parodies Universal monster movies, featuring Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein. The film explores Dr. Frankenstein’s journey to escape his grandfather’s eerie legacy while engaging with a cast of iconic characters, including Igor and the Monster.

Galifianakis, well-known for his roles in Between Two Ferns and the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake, has received various accolades, including an Emmy Award. Nanjiani, acclaimed for his performance in The Big Sick, has also won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

The pilot for Very Young Frankenstein aims to deliver the same kind of humor that Brooks is renowned for, blending the classic with contemporary comedic talent. Although the series does not have a confirmed premiere date yet, it is expected to stream on FX and Hulu if it gets picked up.

As excitement builds around the cast and creative team, fans eagerly await more information about the show and its potential to revive the beloved legacy of Young Frankenstein.
