Anisimova Aims for Redemption in US Open Final Against Sabalenka

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. — Amanda Anisimova will seek redemption when she faces Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open women’s singles final on Saturday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
This matchup comes just eight weeks after their dramatic semifinal clash at Wimbledon, where Anisimova suffered a historic defeat, losing 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Świątek. It was the first time in the Open Era that a women’s player went without winning a game in the final.
Now, Anisimova has the chance to capture her first grand slam title against the world No. 1, Sabalenka, who is looking to defend her title in New York.
The final is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN in the U.S. Fans in Europe and the UK can also catch the match on Eurosport and Sky Sports.
A resilient Anisimova rebounded after her Wimbledon loss and made it to the final by defeating Naomi Osaka in the semifinals. “I think it just shows that I have worked really hard, especially on my mental game and not giving up,” Anisimova said.
Following her quarterfinal win over Świątek, Anisimova expressed a renewed sense of belief. “I think I’ve really done a better job of that, and especially since the Wimbledon final,” she added.
Sabalenka, on the other hand, is determined to silence critics after a rollercoaster season that saw her reach three grand slam finals but lose each time. “What happened in Paris, definitely not gonna happen here,” Sabalenka stated, referring to her emotional display during the French Open.
The Belarusian has maintained a dominant position as the world No. 1 but acknowledges that she needs to control her emotions better. After a semifinal victory over Jessica Pegula, she remarked, “I learned that lesson, and I will never behave that way. It’s not me.”
The upcoming final is set against the backdrop of their competitive history, where Anisimova has won six of their nine matches. Both players are looking to capitalize on their strengths and previous matchups.
“I have to trust myself and go after my shots,” Sabalenka said as she anticipates the final. “In that match at Wimby, I was doubting a lot my decisions.”
As the final approaches, fans eagerly await what promises to be a thrilling showdown between Anisimova and Sabalenka, both of whom are aiming for glory.
