Archie Manning to Speak at William Carey University’s Scholarship Gala

BILOXI, Miss. — William Carey University’s 14th annual scholarship gala is set for Nov. 6 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. The event will start with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
This year’s guest speaker will be Archie Manning, a legendary former quarterback for Ole Miss and the New Orleans Saints. Karen Golson, WCU’s director of advancement, expressed excitement about Manning’s participation. “We are proud to welcome native Mississippian Archie Manning to one of our most cherished annual traditions,” she said. “The Scholarship Gala provides life-changing assistance to our students.”
Manning, born in Drew, gained fame while playing quarterback at Ole Miss. He was selected as the second player in the 1971 NFL draft, becoming the first overall pick for the Saints. During a 14-year career, he set numerous passing records for the Saints, made several Pro Bowls, and was named the NFC’s most valuable player in 1978.
A member of the National Football Foundation and College Football Halls of Fame, as well as the Mississippi and Louisiana Halls of Fame, Manning is also known for his philanthropic work. He supports various causes, including the Boy Scouts, Special Olympics, United Way, and the American Heart Association.
This year, WCU is uniting supporters by merging its Hattiesburg and Biloxi scholarship galas into one event. In future years, the gala is expected to alternate locations between the two cities.
