Us Authorities To Probe Viral Video Of Hushpuppi Holding Feast In Detention Facility

The United States Bureau of Prisons has announced that it will investigate a viral video purportedly showing Nigerian convict Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, holding a feast in what appears to be his detention facility at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Hushpuppi is currently serving an 11-year sentence in the US.

The investigation comes after Hushpuppi’s ally and social media influencer, Tunde Adekunle aka Tunde Ednut, celebrated his birthday on January 22, 2024. A video circulated on social media showing a lavish spread of food, including jollof rice, pasta, and soda drinks, seemingly inside a prison facility.

n

The voice in the video, believed by many Nigerians to be Hushpuppi’s, could be heard saying, ‘Tunde Ednut, you can see that we are celebrating you in our own little way.’ The person behind the camera showcased various delicacies on a white table.

n

Speculations arose as the video displayed features resembling a prison interior, such as a grey double bunk and a bed covered in white sheets. Nigerians who recognized Hushpuppi’s voice insisted that it was indeed him in the viral video. Hushpuppi, aged 41, was convicted in 2022 for his involvement in a multimillion-dollar international fraud scheme.

n

The United States Bureau of Prisons, in response to the viral video, stated that it takes the matter seriously and that its investigative department will conduct an inquiry to establish the veracity of the video. The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Los Angeles had recently dismissed Hushpuppi’s appeal to review and reduce his 11-year sentence based on his good behavior in jail.

n

This development raises questions regarding the circumstances surrounding Hushpuppi’s celebration and the conditions of his confinement. The investigation will aim to uncover the facts surrounding the video and shed light on Hushpuppi’s current situation in prison.
