Eric Adams Trump Administration Discussions

NEW YORK, N.Y. — White House officials are in discussions about a possible job for New York City Mayor Eric Adams in President Trump’s administration. This conversation comes as pressure mounts on other mayoral candidates to withdraw from the race, allowing for a stronger challenger against socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, according to sources.

Sources say talks regarding a potential ambassadorship for Adams have emerged as polling shows him in fourth place ahead of the upcoming November election. An insider noted, “I think Adams would be able to craft a position and a portfolio that’s to his liking.” Another source indicated that his team has encouraged him to consider this opportunity.

During an unrelated press conference, Adams addressed the speculation, stating, “I have a job. I’m running for re-election, I’m still doing that.” His comments suggest he has not fully embraced the idea of leaving his mayoral campaign.

The discussions come as Adams’ independent bid for re-election appears to struggle. Mamdani, who emerged as the front-runner in the Democratic primary, is viewed as a significant threat to Adams’ campaign. The current political landscape shows Adams trailing behind Mamdani and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is also running as an independent.

Trump officials reportedly have been attempting to persuade weaker candidates to withdraw from the race. The strategic move aims to bolster Cuomo’s chances of overcoming Mamdani in the election.

While some reports suggest a potential position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was offered to Adams, his spokesperson, Todd Shapiro, firmly denied this, emphasizing that the Mayor remains focused on winning the election.

Mamdani seized the opportunity to criticize Adams and Cuomo during a press conference, declaring, “We have learned what New Yorkers have long suspected: that Andrew Cuomo is Donald Trump’s choice to be the next mayor of this city.”

Despite the uncertainty, Adams insists on his commitment to the race. He stated, “Whenever I make a move, I’ll make an announcement. I’m in this race to win.” According to sources, he and his campaign officials planned a meeting to discuss their strategy moving forward amid declining support.

City Hall spokesperson Kayla Mamelak reiterated Adams’ intention to continue his term, highlighting his dedication to New Yorkers. “Mayor Adams is a lifelong New Yorker who has dedicated his entire career to this city,” she said.

The outcome of these political maneuvers will likely unfold as the election approaches, with the November vote looming.
