Anna Delvey Joins Dancing With The Stars Amid House Arrest
Anna Delvey, also known as Anna Sorokin, has recently announced her participation as a contestant on the popular reality competition show Dancing With The Stars. Despite her controversial background, which includes being convicted for fraud, Delvey is eager to showcase her dance skills.
In the past few years, Delvey became notorious for impersonating a wealthy socialite in New York City, during which she defrauded banks and luxury hotels out of more than $200,000. Her fraudulent activities were highlighted in a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler, which later inspired the Netflix series Inventing Anna, where she was portrayed by actress Julia Garner.
This season’s cast also includes notable personalities such as Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik, former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Tori Spelling, and actor Eric Roberts. Delvey will be partnered with professional dancer Ezra Sosa, and she is required to wear an ankle monitor while participating in the competition, a consequence of her house arrest.
Delvey’s spokesperson confirmed that she is permitted to travel within 70 miles of her residence and anywhere within New York City based on her house arrest conditions. Since her release from prison in 2021, Delvey has been involved in efforts to combat a deportation order.
In her statement, Delvey expressed enthusiasm for joining the show, stating that she was convinced to participate and received permission from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite the monitoring device, she believes it will not hinder her performance on the dance floor.
Ezra Sosa, Delvey’s dance partner, praised her dance abilities and expressed his excitement for audiences to see her true self, as he believes public perception has not accurately reflected who she is.
The new season of Dancing With The Stars is set to premiere on September 17, 2024, airing on ABC and Disney+.
