LOS ANGELES, California — TJ Friedl is set to make his Major League Baseball playoff debut after the Cincinnati Reds clinched a postseason spot on Sunday, despite a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Reds secured the final wild card berth in the playoffs when the New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins. Finishing the season with an 83-79 record, the Reds will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-three wild card series starting this Tuesday.

In a critical game last Friday, Friedl hit a solo home run in the third inning. He capped the season with a batting average of .261, 14 home runs, and 12 stolen bases across 152 games.

Meanwhile, in Triple-A action, Robby Snelling, a McQueen High alum, helped the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp defeat Kade MorrisLas Vegas Aviators in the PCL Championship Series. The Shrimp triumphed 8-7 on a two-run walk-off home run by Jacob Berry on Saturday night.

Snelling, who had an impressive season with a record of 9-7 and a 2.51 ERA, did not pitch in the playoffs as he was shut down mid-September. Morris had a strong outing in the series previously, allowing just one run over seven innings, ending his season with a 9-10 record and a 4.38 ERA.

In other sports news, the Nevada women’s soccer team earned its first league point of the season with a 1-1 tie against San Jose State. Rylee Husted scored the first goal in the 49th minute before San Jose State equalized in the 72nd minute. Both teams had struggled, entering the match with records of 1-7-1.

The Nevada volleyball team faced a setback, losing to Colorado State, 3-0, and is now 4-8 overall, with an upcoming match against rival UNLV scheduled for Thursday.
