Jamie Lee Curtis Princess Diana Remembrance

LOS ANGELES, CA — Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to Princess Diana on Instagram, reflecting on her emotional near-encounter with the late royal twenty-eight years after her tragic death. The actress, 66, shared the remembrance on Sunday, August 31, coinciding with the anniversary of Diana’s passing.

In her post, Curtis recalled how she “almost met” Diana in 1997 while filming the movie “Fierce Creatures” at Pinewood Studios, located about 20 miles west of London. Diana was set to visit the set with her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Curtis explained that during a break, she quickly left to use the restroom, and by the time she returned, Diana had already arrived and was leaving.

“My driver started banging on the door, saying that she had arrived with her sons, and I jumped into the golf cart. By the time I got back, she was walking away,” Curtis said. She expressed her admiration for Diana in a letter addressed to Kensington Palace, and to her surprise, received a response from the princess just the next day.

“[Diana] thanked me for writing and understanding, of course, nature calling as it happens to her all the time, and that she looked forward to meeting,” Curtis recalled, noting the bittersweet nature of their correspondence since Diana passed away two months later in a car crash in Paris.

After Diana’s death on August 31, 1997, Curtis struggled to process the news. “I remember watching the news… and then I turned it off knowing what the news would do,” she said. Curtis found solace in a book about insight meditation, which prompted her to reflect on Diana’s life and legacy. “I immediately thought about Princess Diana and her learning to live wisely,” she shared.

Curtis emphasized Diana’s courage and compassion throughout her struggles, stating, “She talked about her own personal issues and demonstrated courage and compassion.” The actress fondly remembered the iconic image of Diana with her arms outstretched, welcoming her sons, which she shared alongside her tribute. “I’m still moved by her grace and courage,” Curtis concluded.
