Leander Isd School Bus Hazardous Routes

Leander ISD is seeking community feedback to determine where to provide bus services for students living within two miles of campus, particularly for those with hazardous walking routes. Parents and community members can submit their input until Jan. 21, 2025, as the district reviews areas where students may face unsafe conditions on their way to school.

Under Texas law, school districts are not required to provide bus services to students living within two miles of their campus unless the walking path is deemed hazardous. Leander ISD evaluates potential hazardous routes annually, considering factors such as lack of sidewalks, high-speed traffic, and unsafe crossings. Routes are automatically classified as hazardous if they meet specific criteria, including proximity to highways or dangerous intersections.

District transportation staff assess potential hazardous routes by reviewing road conditions, construction updates, and other changes that may impact student safety. Community feedback plays a critical role in this process, as residents can highlight areas of concern that may not be immediately apparent to district officials.

Once the review is complete, the Leander ISD Board of Trustees will approve the final hazardous routes. Families affected by the changes will be notified in March 2025, according to district officials. This process ensures that students have safe and reliable transportation options, even if they live close to their school.

Leander ISD encourages parents and community members to participate in the feedback process to help identify areas where bus services are most needed. The district’s commitment to student safety remains a top priority as it navigates the challenges of providing transportation in a rapidly growing community.
